Setting Up Your Space

• • Find a spot that is quiet and free from distraction. Microphones can pick up a lot of extra sounds.
  • Turn on the lights in the room.
  • Make sure the device you’re using for the lesson is fully charged and placed in a way that allows you/your child to see the screen clearly — this way you can see the teacher and the teacher can see you.
  • Piano students: your teacher needs to see your hands on the keyboard.
  • Have all materials ready beside you: music, pencil, metronome, notebook, etc.

Improving Your Audio/Video Quality

If you find that your lesson video/audio is “glitchy”, you can do the following to improve the quality of your internet connection:

• • Try to reduce the number of devices using Wi-Fi during the lesson.
  • Please ask family members to avoid watching movies, playing games, etc. on Wi-Fi for the duration of the lesson.
  • Set up the lesson space as close as you can to your Wi-Fi router.

Improving Your Wi-Fi Connection

• Consider getting a WiFi-extender to boost the Wi-Fi strength in other parts of your home if you are unable to do your lesson next to your router.
• You can connect your device directly to your modem with an ethernet cable to improve your Wi-Fi connection
• If you’re using a PC/laptop, you probably have an input for an ethernet cable. Plug one end into your computer and the other into a spare slot on your modem.
  
• If you don’t have an ethernet cable input (iPad/tablet/laptop/Chromebook users), you will need an ethernet cable adapter. The ethernet cable plugs into the adapter and the adapter plugs into your device. You can also plug in your charging cable into the adapter so that your device can be charging at the same time.
• If you are still finding that your internet connection is not strong enough, contact your ISP to check if you are due for a modem/router upgrade.
